Jute twine hair accessory

I love burlap, brown paper bags, and Jute twine. Something about these soft brown, rustic textures are right up my alley for home decor, and crafting. I have a container of fabric flowers I made a few months ago in my craft storage. I decided to make my monkey a hair accessory using Jute twine as the head band. The twine grips well to the hair and does not shift, but I would not use it as an everyday hair accessory. It is a little too course for that. I used it primarily for nice pictures of my daughter.
All I did was hot glue 3 separate pieces to the back of the fabric flowers, and secured to her head with a bow knot.
Here's how to make the flowers: Free hand cut squares out of fabric. Fold square piece in half, and stitch the open side. Now add the next folded square piece to the same thread line. Repeat steps 4-6 times depending on how many petals you want for your flower. Once all your desired petals are on gently push against the thread to form each petal. The tension will create a circular pattern. Play with shapes of each petal. Once petals are shaped to your desire, tie the open end of the thread to secure shape.  Now cut out smaller fabric squares to make the center of the flower. I topped off with a button. You can hand stitch all pieces together, or hot glue for a faster finish.  Use as a hair accessories, embellishment for shirts, jackets, bags, hats, etc...

Halloween Hair Clip

Now that my house is  completely reorganized my crafting juices are in full swing. Perfect timing for the holiday season. I found my tub of fabric, so I started with a simple burlap hair clip. This is one of the easiest accessories to make.  You take any scrap fabric that's at least 1" x 12". On  the long side of the fabric sew a running stitch. Gather together to form a circle, and sew knot to secure. That's it. I added a spider ring to the  center with a needle and thread. I secured back with felt fabric to cover work area, and added a hair clip. My little monkey loves the extra accents for her holiday outfits.

Organza Hair Accessories for everyone...

At this same bridal fair, I needed to pass out a free item to all booth guests. I decided to make a ton of these organza flowers since I love the way they look in updos. They are really easy to make, and very affordable for me. I had a ton of these lefted over, so I'm planning on using them to accent something for my little monkey.

Hair accessories from Hula Leis

School is getting ready to start, so I decided to make hair accessories that match my little monkey's new school clothes. I went to our local dollar store, and purchased two leis. I dismantled them, and rearranged the petals. I added a button on the top, and a square felt piece to the back, and hand stitched together. Then I added a hair clip to the felt backing. You can hot glue or hand stitch. This project was fast, and I saved $$$ by hand making them. So cute!!!

Fabric Flower Power

My friend Erin has a beautiful sister named Alicia. There are many things I appreciate about Alicia. One of which is she is a crafty girl who loves to share her projects through her creative blog The Charity Wedding. When I first read about this craft project I got so excited! I couldn't wait to give this a try. Alicia suggested I make headbands for my little monkey, and that's exactly what I did! Here's how:

If you click on to the above blog site you can follow Alicia directions. I'm just a big fan of freezer paper I just created my own template by outlining bowls from the kitchen.

Next use an x-acto knife, and craft pad to cut out circles.

You must use systhetic fabric for this project. Use the circle template as your guide to cut out fabric circles. You can use a straight pin to hold template to fabric, or just hold and free hand cut. Now cut 5 straight cuts towards the center to create petals for flower. I also cut edges off to help form the petal shape. See above. Now light a candle and place individual cut pieces to the flame. The flame will create these beautiful wilted, curled edges. Once all done. Stack your petals, and add fleece for backing.

Now hand stitch together. I also stitch on to head bands and a tank top.

The possibilities are really endless. I was thinking about add to a homemade denim purse, or making them for Kaya's little girlfriends. Thank you Alicia for a easy, fun, and beautiful craft idea. I can't wait to make more.

Pretty bows

Cut strips of felt, fold in half, and sew one side. Cut out 2 green leaves.
Cut along edge.
Start from one end, and roll. Sew to secure.
Put second strip on top, and roll. Secure by sewing.

You can embellish bow with buttons if you like. These bows can be use many different ways. I'm planning on using some to create hair accessories, pins for Kaya, and make baby hair bands for Easter gifts. Their are beautiful, and fun to make.

Hair Accessories

I'm feeling a little crafty today, so I decided to check out this site called The Ribbon Retreat. If you've never attempt making hair bows this site gave pretty good examples of how to create different styles of bows. I found this project fun. I liked that it was easy, and I liked coordinating all the different colors, and styles of bows. I looking forward to make many of these for Kaya's upcoming school year.

Supplies: ribbons, needle, thread, hair band, or barrettes, hot glue, decorative gem, and no fray glue.
